OxSAR Water Safety Training

Yesterday evening I ran another training session for OxSAR. This time I tried to combine what was previously two different training sessions into one.

ALSAR have two water safety standards:

  • Water Awareness which is designed for all searchers (based on module 1 of DEFRA's flood ops guidelines), and
  • Bank Searcher, which is aimed at searches in a specialist team searching near water (based on module 2 of the same DEFRA guidelines).

OxSAR's aim is to have all our search technicians trained to Bank Searcher level and even those who can't swim or don't want to take part in live bank searches will benefit from having the extra depth of knowledge covered in the Bank Searcher theory session, so we thought it makes sense to combine the training.
